I had to include this as a Christmas favorite, and today it's FOOD!Food is a very BIG deal during our Christmas gatherings. My mom is planning practically starting at Thanksgiving, and if all the family can be there, that just adds to her menu. However, we always have a "mixed bag" at Christmas. This means that there isn't necessarily just traditional Christmas fare, like ham.
Along with the ham, we also have a bunch of Filipino favorites, mainly because some of us (like me!) don't necessarily make it on our own. So, when we go "home" (i.e. the family gathering), we always request the special foods. The things is that these dishes usually take so much time, which most of us don't have. Christmas is the one time that we actually make the time to invest in cooking up these favorites.
Some of the items that are a must have for our Christmas meal: lumpia (aka eggrolls) and pancit (noodles mixed with veggies and meat). Then we have other items that vary, depending on who is showing up. Sometimes we'll have some dim sum (which used to be the treat from my brother who lived in San Francisco), crab (cooked fresh!)Can't wait to go home and eat up!
And if you're wondering what year these photos are from: 2006.
