Let's Do the Hula

I recently purchased the Memoir of Two Island Girls collaboration by Emily Merritt and Valorie Wibbens because of some of the Hawaiian elements and papers included in the kit. Most of my family was born in Hawaii, and we have lots of extended family there. So, I thought it would be great to use to scrapbook some old family photos. However, I haven't done that yet.

Instead, I pulled a more recent family photo to use for a challenge at The Lilypad.

I love that there was a little strip of "grass skirt" that I could use with my photo!

Summer Moments

Summer is just flying by. That's okay by me, since I'm not a fan of summer - probably one of the few people who don't really enjoy it that much. The season itself is fine. The weather - I could live without all the heat! Ideally, my summer would be days no higher than 75 degrees. :)

Anyway, I finally got to do a summer thing - even though it was in the middle of summer. We finally went to the Tuesday Marketplace, a local farmer's market that also has entertainment since it takes place after work hours. I usually meet up with some friends, we grab dinner from the various food carts, then sit on the grass and listen to whatever music is featured for the night. Oh, and on occasion we pick up some of the summer fruits or veggies.

I ended up using one of the pics I took that night for a challenge at The Lilypad.

Triggertrap - So Cool!

Photojojo has a new item in their store that I am dying to try out - the Triggertrap!
This cool toy allows you to link your smartphone to your DSLR and control it! It's more than just a remote. There are other options for long exposures and different modes. You need the app on your smartphone to work all this. And this cool little toy is $30 - about the cost of a remote. I think it might just be something to try out...

Releases from Teresa Collins & An Oscraps Feature

One of my all-time favorite designers, Teresa Collins debuted several new releases at CHA (Craft & Hobby Association) today! I especially love these two collections:
Family Stories by Teresa Collins
Memorabilia by Teresa Collins
You can view Teresa's other releases on her blog.

Yesterday, one of my layouts was featured on the Oscraps blog! I did this layout months ago for one of the Oscraps 7th birthday challenges. It actually won the challenge - a big surprise for me, especially since I didn't spend very much time on it. It seems like the layouts I spend hours on never win challenges, yet some of the ones I do under time pressure end up winning. Odd... ;)

Relax - A Challenge...

RELAX is a word that I need to do more of in my daily life. So it was fitting that I selected this word for the Get Real Challenge #13 at Real Life Scrapped, lol!

However, I did find some photos of myself actually relaxing at some point in my life. Here's the page I created:

Template:  Fly Away (Our Misadventures)

I love using a large photo on a layout, but haven't done a lot of it lately. I think this one works well here.

Anyway, join us for the challenge! You can score some fun freebies from Our Misadventures! First, there's a freebie on the Real Life Scrapped Facebook Fan Page:
And, if you participate in the challenge, you will receive this terrific template set - I used it for my layout above:
The challenge is simple. You don't even need to do a full layout. You can write a few words or even post a photo. All you have to do is tell us what you think of when you hear "relax." :)  We hope you'll join in on the fun!

Welcome...

I really loved a template designed by Katie Pertiet and finally got to use it in The Lilypad's One Word Challenge today...

Papers: Bloom, I Am Not Perfect, Growing Pains, The Things You Say (Pink Reptile Designs)
Fonts: Vaguely Repulsive (title); Pea BMad (journaling); Arial (dates)
Template: Template Inspiration – 6/1/13 (Katie Pertiet)

I did change the template a little, since I moved the large photo from being in the middle to the side. I don't normally use a lot of block templates, but I've been really drawn to them, so I wanted to see what I could do with it. I also love that Pink Reptile Designs has such great elements that I can mix and match.

Literary Lover

I've always loved books. They are portable and entertaining. And if a book is really good, you can re-read it! I finally got to capture a little bit of my book love in a challenge layout...

The photo is of the northwest entrance of Powell's Books - one of the best ever bookstores! I know I had a photo of the inside too, but I can't seem to find it in my photo archives - one of the drawbacks when photos are filed chronologically, lol!
